This lithograph is the visual depiction of the reflection of light off of the Moon. This phenomena was first proposed by Alexei Leonov in his masters thesis, before his flight in space in 1965. General Leonov postulated that there was an "Ashy Layer" in the lower atmosphere that refracts the light of the Moon as it passes through, causing a mirage -- like reflection on the Earth below. This was confirmed on one of his space flights, and Leonov painted this work illustrating the phenomenon that can only be seen in space, as the angle of incidence for the observer on Earth does not allow them to visualize it. The city lights from Earth show through the clouds below. Leonov was the first man to predict, see, describe and paint this rare phenomena that few have ever seen!

This lithograph is the visual depiction of a cyclone over Malaysia that was seen by Alexei Leonov in 1975 while he was in space as the commander of the Soyuz spacecraft on the eve of the joint United States - USSR Apollo rendezvous. This cyclone was the first depicted by an artist from space and shows the unusual size of the system and the rare phenomena of the clouds that punctured the higher ionosphere during this vast weather disturbance that extended over one quarter of the globe. Leonov was one of the first to see, describe and first to paint this rare phenomena that few have ever seen!
